7 Songs to Get You Moving
Pump Up the Jam, Technotronic
Songwriters: Manuela Kamosi | Thomas De Quincey
Released in November 1989, it is a timeless song to get you moving. From the first synthesized note from the hi-hat cymbal this song has your foot tapping and your body moving. It almost pulls you off the couch against your free-will, I promise.
With lyrics such as these, you cannot help but keep up on the dance floor, or maybe clean that kitchen floor or run that extra quarter mile on your morning run – – heck, whatever it is you need to get up off the couch and do…
Pump up the jam, pump it up
While you feet are stompin’
And the jam is pumpin’
Look at here the crowd is jumpin’
Pump it up a little more
Pump Up the Jam, Technotronic
Jump in the Line, Harry Belafonte

Released in November 1961 and immortalized in the cult hit movie, Beatle Juice, this performance by Harry Belafonte will have you shaking your tush and getting some serious GSDing done. You will certainly be ready to “jump in the line and rock your body in time” to any task on your to-do-list.
Though you may be tempted to make a tropical cocktail at the end of the workday or chore list! Might I recommend some peach sangria that you could give a Caribbean flair?
Conga, Miami Sound Machine
Songwriters: Enrique Elias Garcia
Carrying on with our Caribean influenced, move your body, and gets you moving is this fun little ditty. with lines like this you cannot help but be inspired to take care of even the most boring detail on your daily to-do-list:
Better get yourself together, and hold on to what you’ve got
Once the music hits your system, there’s no way your gonna stop
Conga, Miami Sound Machine
See! It won’t let you stop – – it is telling you that you will get moving and get it done!
Work B**ch, Britney Spears
Songwriters: Anne Cunningham | Anthony Preston | Britney Spears | Otto Jettman | Sebastian Ingrosso | William Adams
As the popular meme tagline says, “if Britney can make it through 2007, you can survive…,” this song reminds us all that we need to work to reap the rewards. And that is a profound and motivating statement.
This song will ignite the fire and kick it up a few degrees. She tells us more than once that we need to work! How can you sit on your tush and not get anything done but mindless Facebook scrolling with that message – – “you better work b**ch!” I mean, she does say the word work 48 times in the song, just saying. Maybe we should listen to her?
Eye of the Tiger, Survivor
Songwriters: Frank Sullivan | Jim Peterik
Be honest, you just started boxing like you were going to go a few rounds with your opponent, am I right? From the opening notes to the lyrics this one is a tried and true classic that will make you feel like you at a big bowl of Wheaties.
Do you have the eye of the tiger? Are you going to keep fighting to stay on top of your to-do list? With this addition to your GSD playlist, I bet you capture your glory!
We Will Rock You, Queen
Songwriters: Brian May
Released in 1977, this song will have you moving without a doubt since you’ll stand up to do the stomping part! Bam! That was easy. And then it’ll keep you moving to try to find the right pitch to channel your inner Freddy Mercury and do the harmony at the same time.
You might just feel motivated to move onto We Are the Champions by Queen as well, to help you conquer more of your day!
I Like to Move It, Reel 2 Real
Songwriters: Erick Morillo | Mark Quashie
A list of songs that get you moving would not be complete without this 1994 release by Reel 2 Real, made famous by the critters in Madagascar. The song literally tells you to move it and how can you not? It is just that simple.
