Cranberry Sauce Recipe
This is a simple cranberry sauce recipe base that you can easily tweak and change to incorporate many different ingredients. This is a classic dish to add to any holiday meal, especially Thanksgiving!
Variation Ideas
The beauty of this simple recipe is just how easy it is to make it tailored to your taste buds without doing a lot of strange recipe math!
Berries
Berries make a wonderful addition to cranberry sauce! I personally like to add raspberries the most but have been known to use strawberries, too. Just toss in some washed berries when you add the cranberries or after they have burst if you want whole pieces of berry.
Citrus
Add a splash of your favorite citrus juice at the end of cooking. Or even better, throw in a few segments of orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit after taking it off the heat.
Apples
Apples are a great balance for the tartness of the cranberries. You can go two ways, softened or crunchy. For softened apples, core and seed an apple and chop it into small pieces then add them to the water before you start boiling it. For a crunchy apple, just core and seed the apple, chop into small pieces and add after you remove the pan from the heat.
Dig in!
Personally, I like mine very tart so I opt for ½ to ¾ cup of sugar instead of the traditional 1 cup of sugar. If you have a sweet tooth add that full cup (or a touch more)! And if you like to get “sauced” with a cranberry cocktail check out this one! Drop me a line or comment below if you when you try it! <3
