Overview of Day 2
We managed to leave the state of Arizona today. We got a late start that was partly sleeping beauty’s fault, and y’all Wilhelmina never sleeps in so I wasn’t waking her up! And a bit of mama’s fault, I kind of wanted to get Day 1 typed up. Oops! Wilhelmina is an amazing traveler and is enjoying her daily activity bags.
Today we covered 388 miles of southwestern landscape, a handful of construction zones, and some suspect pavement along the way. And three different Love’s Travel Stops in two different states – – which the toddler wanted to buy a stuffed animal at each time. I think I have a shopper or a zookeeper on my hands.
What we saw
Besides the numerous Love’s Travel Stops, we saw a lot of beautiful landscapes with various shades of brown and shifting rock formations on day 2. One thing we saw between Casa Grande and Tuscon was Rooster Cogburn’s Ostrich Ranch. This story behind the ranch is a mix of the All American Dream and tragedy. It is a place that I wish I had stopped to visit during my four years in Arizona. It is on my list to come back to one day.
After the ostriches, the travel was smooth sailing but hustling as best as you can while towing a Mini Cooper and traveling with a two-year-old. We stopped at the Texas Canyon rest area for a picnic lunch and a little “rock climbing” for Mina.
Back on the road after lunch, the most exciting sights, beyond the great expanses of open space and high mountains were: crossing the Continental Divide, numerous warnings of blowing dust and how to proceed, two major universities, and a large number of dairy cows between Las Cruces and El Paso.
Both the campuses of New Mexico State University and the University of Texas-El Paso were on our route. Pre-toddler days I would have pulled the car into the visitors’ lot and explored. I have a strange fascination with college/university campuses.
Where we wound up
We stopped for the night just through downtown El Paso. The amount of sprawl along the interstate was impressive, as well as the peek into Mexico.
Today I rocked one of my all-time favorites, my pink leggings with peek-a-boo floral cut-outs. I cheated on LuLaRoe’s shirts today and sported my Cinco de Moe’s green t-shirt that accents the yellow and orange in my leggings. Need a comfy pair of traveling pants? Then look no further, just pop over to my friend LuLaRoe Kristin Francis’ shop to snag a pair or two!
