With a little less enthusiasm as Day 1 and Day 2… Hey,
Overview of Day 3

You never realize how big Texas is until you start driving through it. We are still in the big ol’ state for day 3 and might make it out alive tomorrow!
Wilhelmina graced us with a nap today after a very long, long night for her and me. Nothing gets your heart racing faster than a toddler sneak attack at an ungodly hour, I thought she was in bed with me – – nope! A cute little face popped into my face to ask where Ikea was, the stuffed cat not the Swedish store that you get lost in easily. This mama needed her Java Momma this morning and I was thankful for my travel mug.
Miles traveled
Today we covered 406 miles and finally left Interstate 10. Woo-hoo! We opted for a new strategy today that paid off. My dad and the Penske truck left about 90 minutes before the ladies did, which means us girls got to go the speed limit. Did you know that in parts of Texas the speed limit is 80MPH? Varoom!
What we saw
We saw a lot of brown. Brown hills, brown grass, brown scrub trees and bushes, brown hills, brown buttes, brown sand, and occasionally brown skies. We traveled through the Big Bend Country and Panhandle Plains. As the landscaped shifted we saw plenty of wide-open spaces that transitioned into oil fields and then to fields filled with windmills.
Numerous Union Pacific trains passed along, some stretching for what felt like miles. Watching the ballet of the semi-trucks, trains, and oil fields were very entertaining. I have always been fascinated with our nation’s infrastructure.
My mom and I had a chat amongst the oil fields about the pumps, which by the way are called pump jacks. She said they had always reminded her of dinosaurs and I have always found them interesting to watch. But at 80 MPH I had better be paying more attention to the road, especially with all the semi-trucks!
Along the way, we found an awesome rest area just past Pecos that housed a history of the region, especially Pyote Army Airfield, and an amazing playground. We had a picnic lunch, learned a bit, and Wilhelmina got to play for a bit. Play is a good thing!
Where we wound up
We stopped for the night in Sweetwater, TX at a Hampton Inn with an indoor pool! Wilhelmina and I got to pop on our swimsuits and splash around after dinner. And though I forgot to snap a picture, I used my Shirley as a cover-up.
Prior to swimming, we had dinner at Skeet’s Texas Grill. I recommend the fried pickles appetizer but maybe heading somewhere else for dinner since its best quality, otherwise, was its walkability from the hotel.

Pants worn
Today I rocked my wine, yellow, and plum floral and mess patterned leggings with one of my favorite material Randy baseball tees. Turns out it is was a Randy/Sloan day all around since my mom and Mina rocked them as well! The family that Roes together goes together down the interstate in comfort! Or something like that…
