When is the best time to do a travel French Press mug review? Following a road trip, of course! Last spring I completed a 2000 mile road trip. so I had ample time to want to savor quality brewed Java Momma coffee along the way while needing portability so I need to find a travel French press for that, didn’t I?
Based on the reviews on Amazon I opted to try out three different ones. One didn’t even leave Phoenix before I tossed it in the return packaging. Here were the best two, the contenders: Bodum Travel Tea and Coffee Press, Stainless Steel Insulated Travel Mug, Black, 15 Ounce versus ZYLISS Travel French Press and Coffee and Tea Mug, Single Serve.
Travel French Press Mug Review
The Bodum
Pros: easy to hold, keeps your coffee hot, stylish appearance, fits in most car cup holders.
Cons: hard to gauge water level the first few times, the flip-up to drink from can be difficult to open while driving.
Should I mention I love the Bodum? I have my coffee with milk and stevia so at first, I thought it would be a challenge to add. Nope, found a fantastic tip in the review thread on Amazon and I’ll share with you, too!
It is easy to assemble and clean. The directions are clear and concise. The biggest challenge I have is remembering to flip the cover for the drink hole before assembling.
Final verdict. Travel a lot or a little, the Bodum is your friend! In fact, I used it this week on a 45-minute road trip when I could have easily just brewed some at home first.
The ZYLISS
Pros: easy to use and clean, easy to hold.
Cons: does not fit into the cupholder of most cars, coffee does not stay hot for very long.
Amazon suggested the ZYLISS to me in my search for travel mugs but it certainly does not travel well in a car. This is a great option for at the hotel before hitting the road if you would prefer your coffee to the hotels.
This is a great option for those days when you want another cup of coffee but you do not want to clean out the French Press to make another pot. I have used my ZYLISS at home many mornings when I needed another cup, as many toddler parents and night owls can fully appreciate.
Final verdict. Great at-home mug, bad car/plane travel mug.
