If you have been following along you might be thinking, “hmmm… didn’t they just move?” The answer to that pondering thought it an emphatic “yes!” Moss doesn’t grow on a rolling stone though, am I right? So we have set forth on a new adventure with a move to Indianapolis. Why? Read on to find out!
Our move to Indianapolis
Unlike our last move to South Carolina, this one was more of an exciting decision than just a “smart” decision. With our prior visits to Indianapolis, its abundant family-friendly activities and museums, and its proximity to the extended family it was a win-win choice.
The adventure to Indianapolis
Over the summer we decided to make the move to Indianapolis. It is a city that my parents are very familiar with and one that we are exploring with my daughter.
Due to professional and personal obligations, W and I had to stay behind through December. My parents moved ahead without us to our new home in the Fall Creek Place area of Indianapolis. She and I got to spend 52 days in an AirBnB known as the Cottage on Speers for to wrap up our SC adventure. It was a charming little cottage and affirmed my love of living in a smaller space. Hmmm… maybe we really should try out #vanlife on a part-time or full-time basis.
Time to hit the road
Maybe we aren’t quite ready to make the full-time commitment to eschewing all of our worldly possessions since we needed to rent a small Uhaul trailer to schlep the remainder of our stuff for the move to Indianapolis.
Stop along the way
The plan was to always stop at Kodak, TN, just a mere 3.5 hours from Newberry but after the miserable weather at the start, I was so thankful for that plan.
If you aren’t familiar with Kodak, it is near the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and all things Pigeon Forge-area. It is a fun area to spend some time year-round with family and friends. It also has ample accommodations and food options that are all busy, busy, busy. So during the weekends and major holidays be sure to plan ahead.
We had a lovely evening of pool-swimming and steak-eating in Kodak with our stay at the Holiday Inn Express. #TravelTip, get those coupon books at the rest areas, those hotel prices are amazing!! Another tip, if you eat at any of The Chop House Steakhouse be sure to make a reservation ahead and ask the server how many tickets are ahead of you for the grill. It makes a big difference between a nice meal with a short wait or a nice meal with a very long wait.
On to the next day
In reality, the trip can easily be done in one day but Uhaul+Bad Weather+4yo= 2 Day Trip. This day greeted us with clear weather and a smooth but chilly journey.
Google maps took us a different route so we got to experience a lot of horse country in Kentucky and the new East End Crossing, it was a stunning entry into our new home state, Indiana! This is where I should insert some sort of Hoosier joke but I am feeling a bit scattered, smothered, and covered these days.

We have arrived!
As we got closer and closer to Indianapolis we got to enjoy the sight of lots of white, fluffy snow and rolling farmland. Furthermore, my co-pilot was getting sick of being in the car and really wanted to play in the white, fluffy snow so I heard a lot of *sighs* and “are we almost there, mama?” After 580+ miles, a dip in a pool, and plenty of 4yo-led Christmas songs we arrived!
Obviously, touching the snow was the first priority! Follow along in our journey through our new adventure and the move to Indianapolis by dropping me a line or subscribing so that you can what happens next.
Life moves on and so should we.
