Have you ever thought that you may possibly be the weirdest person you know? Nope, we are all a little quirky. Promise, some of us just don’t share it as much. If you want a little encouragement, a chuckle, or just a feeling like you aren’t the only one in the world that has quirks then give We’re All a Mess, It’s OK by Amy Lyle a read!
We’re All a Mess, It’s OK || Amy Lyle

We are all a little quirky, promise!
This book is like that extra glass of wine that has you sharing just a bit more than you expected at the company dinner – – but without the mortification the next day! It is filled with quick little snippets of “normal” people’s misadventures through life. And it is a quick read, too!
Layout and/or interesting features
Each section is broken into a general life topic with quotes to introduce the topic and give you a chuckle. Each section has a subheading to give the story context. Additionally, it’s easy to pick up/put it down kind of book when you need a lift or distraction. Most of us want to “fit in” so it is nice to know that being weird is okay since that means we all “normal.”
Biggest takeaway
Dude, none of us is “normal” and that is okay! Heck, we are all a little quirky – – okay, some are a LOT quirky, and that is perfect! Life would be very boring if we didn’t have little idiosyncrasies and funny things that happen to us.
Just like Marie Forleo talks about in Everything is Figureoutable, perfectionism is not a thing we should strive for and we need to embrace who we are and the gifts we possess. So let’s all embrace the weird and let people see the real us and not the slick and polished persona we try to be in public. That is so dang exhausting, y’all, am I right?
Area for improvement
Honestly? I would have loved an invitation to join Amy Lyle’s community! Some of the people in The Story Behind the Stories sound like my people! I could find my place among them and thrive.
Would I read it again?
I would totally read a few of the stories again when I was in need of a laugh or feeling like I “belong” among a community. I am far from perfect or normal so this was my jam. However, I won’t be able to read it again because I am forwarding it to a friend that needs a laugh. I could always snag another copy or the Kindle version.
You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.
Lewis Carroll
What should I read next?
Up next is Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster for The Busy Llama Book Club. As for something in the non-fiction realm, I’ll be finishing The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson.
Back to the shelf!
It was nice to read a bit of fluff and nonsense, and I will definitely pick up a couple more light reading options. Life is all about balance and moderation, right?
If you would like to join us for our next book club meeting then hop over to the community! It is a place to be quirky, authentically you, and wear some jammies without judgment! Plus, we’ll let you know if you have spinach in your teeth!
Also, if you feel like being a bit more polished and professional, that is cool, too. We can do that sort of thing on the Facebook community page. Join the conversation! And as always, drop me a line or comment below with any feedback on this post.
